Laser Skin Resurfacing ("Laser Peel")

A laser device is used to remove damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer; most commonly used to reduce fine lines around the mouth, eyes and facial scars. This procedure is also effective in treating areas of uneven pigmentation.
Length
A few minutes to 1 hour. May require more than 1 session.
Recovery
Return to work: about 2 weeks. More strenuous activities: 4 to 6 weeks. Complete fading of redness: 6 months or less. Return of pigmentation/ light sun exposure: 6 to 12 months.
Results
Long-lasting, but does not stop new signs of aging.
Technology
The laser emits a beam of high intensive, light energy that vaporizes the upper layers of damaged skin. Laser skin resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Some patients with dark or olive skin, allergies, previous burns, a history of poor scar formation, radiation exposure, or episodes of cold sores around the mouth may not be able to undergo laser skin resurfacing

Dermabrasion -Skin Refinishing

Dermabrasion helps to improve the look of scarred or sun-damaged skin. It is frequently used to treat acne scars or to erase fine, facial wrinkles for a more youthful look. The procedure is not used to remove birth skin defects, moles, birthmarks and burn scars, although it may be used to remove tattoos and chicken pox scars.
Length
A few minutes to 2 hours. Some cases require several sessions of treatment.
Recovery
Most patients are able to return to work right away. Pinkish skin may take about 3 months to fade. Your surgeon may ask you to stay out of the sun for six to twelve months.
Results
After 18 months, patients should expect a 50 to 80 percent improvement in the skin.
Technology
A surgeon scrapes away the skin′s top layers so that newer, smoother skin grows back using a rough wire brush, or a burr containing diamond particles, attached to a motorized handle; continuing until he or she reaches the safest level that will make the scar or wrinkle less visible.

Laser treatment can remove hair from many areas of the body, including the face, upper lip, bikini line, and neck area. The results of the laser can last for many weeks before hair is even slightly visible.

The Best Candidates for Laser Hair Removal

The best candidates for laser hair removal are fully able to comply with aftercare instructions, well-educated about the procedure, and have realistic expectations. Here are some criteria to help you decide if you are a good candidate:

• Dark hair, light skin, and course hair are the easiest to treat. These patients typically see the best results and require fewer treatment sessions. 
• People with dark skin may not be ideal candidates for laser hair removal, but may still benefit from treatment. Under certain circumstances the procedure can be effective.
• Blond, grey, and red hairs are more difficult to treat with a laser. 
• Tanned patients must wait until the tan fades before treatment. 
• Candidates who suffer from skin disorder such as psoriasis, cystic acne, and dermatitis are not ideal candidates for laser hair removal.
• The procedure does not necessarily result in 100 percent reduction of unwanted hair in the first treatment session. Multiple sessions may be needed.
  

The Laser Hair Removal Procedure

Laser hair removal is performed in a clinic or laser hair treatment facility. Depending upon the extent of the treatment, time in treatment ranges from one hour to several hours. Keep in mind that multiple sessions may be necessary.
A numbing lotion will first be applied to the targeted area. During the procedure, a laser is used to dispense a fine intense beam of heated light that removes the hair follicles, but preserves the skin in the surrounding area.
